TOPIC 2: DOUBLE ENTRY SYSTEM (part 2)

How do you determine the entries of each categories of accounts?

Kemudian, bagaimana pula caranya untuk tentukan kedudukan akaun yang perlu didebit atau dikreditkan? Berikut saya kepilkan jadual yang perlu anda ingat di mana jadual ini telah merumuskan kedudukan catatan yang perlu dibuat bagi kesemua sepuluh kategori akaun berikut;

1)Asset
2)Liability
3)Capital
4)Drawing

  1. How do you read the table?
    a) You have to first look at the 'status' of the account either it is increasing or decreasing. The status will actually indicate the accounting entries of that account.

    For example: "Purchased a vehicle worth RM5,000 by cash". This means that the Vehicle Account is inceasing, while the Cash in Hand is decreasing. Both the Vehicle Account and Cash in Hand Accounts is an assets. So the increase in Vehicle A/ct should be recorded on its debit side, while the decrease in CIH A/c should be recorded on its credit side.

  2. b) Remember, 1st, look at the status. 2nd, look at the entries.

    So, asset increase = record on debit side, asset decrease = record on credit side.

    If liability increase = record on credit side, liability decrease = record on debit side, etc.
